Matthew Weekes

Software developer, self-hoster, and privacy advocate.

Welcome to medidew.name. If your first thoughts upon seeing this home page were: "wow, this looks about as bland as a Wikipedia page," then I thank you very much. I don't like flashy websites. Besides, even if UI and UX were my forte, which they very much are not, I would rather your attention lay with the contents of my words than on a fancy animation that obscures half of what you want to read, eats unnecessary resources, and makes most of the page impossible to search.

No, I've not been wronged by professional web design before. Whatever gave you that impression?

So what is this website for? Well, I have a lot of things I want to share — a lot of projects, essays, opinions, and reviews — but I've chosen to keep most of those private over the years. I've never been big on the social media platforms that everyone else uses, a feeling that has only strengthened with the advent of TikTok and YouTube Shorts and such. But even then, most of the stuff I make is primarily for myself. Up until now, I've never felt the need to share it.

However, every now and then it's both useful and convenient to have something concrete to point to when I'm talking about an app I wrote, or maybe a film I once watched. Thus, at its core, this website is a hub for those 'somethings'. Perhaps alongside the occasional ramble.

That, and considering I originally bought the domain for my self-hosting escapades, I thought it would be a waste not to make full use of it. Who doesn't want to run their very own website?
